Abstract Our aim was to evaluate the effects of cisplatin and dexamethasone alone and combined on gastric contractility and histomorphometry of BALB/c and C57BL/6 mice. BALB/c and C57BL/6 male mice (8-week-old) were randomly separated into: Control; Cisplatin (7.5 mg/Kg); Dexamethasone (2.0 mg/Kg); and Dexamethasone plus Cisplatin (2.0 mg/Kg of dexamethasone 1-hour prior to 7.5 mg/Kg of cisplatin). Drugs were administered intraperitoneally for three days. Body weight and food intake were evaluated on 2nd day. Alternating Current Biosusceptometry technique was employed to measure gastric contractions on 3rd day. Afterward, mice were killed for gastric histomorphometric analysis. Cisplatin decreased food intake and caused bradygastria in BALB/c mice; however, the amplitude of gastric contractions decreased in both BALB/c and C57BL/6. Dexamethasone and cisplatin combined restored the gastric frequency and food intake only in BALB/c, but drug combination reduced the gastric amplitude of contractions in both strains. Dexamethasone alone increased gastric mucosa thickness in C57BL/6 and decreased muscular thickness in BALB/c. In conclusion, the mouse strains presented differences in acute effects of cisplatin and dexamethasone alone and combined on gastric function. This reinforces the importance of choosing the appropriate mouse strain for studying the acute effects of drugs on the gastrointestinal tract.

RESUMO Objetivo: Este artigo revisa pesquisas existentes relacionadas à avaliação do impacto da inovação social e identifica várias barreiras para essa avaliação. Em seguida, são propostas intervenções para superar essas barreiras. Originalidade/valor: A inovação social tem desempenhado um papel importante na promoção de mudanças positivas para a sociedade. No entanto, medir seu impacto é um desafio muito significativo devido às muitas barreiras enfrentadas na seleção de métricas que se encaixam em sua definição e objetivo. Reconhecendo esses desafios, a principal contribuição deste artigo foi identificar as barreiras mais comuns e sugerir como elas podem ser superadas. Design/metodologia/abordagem: Duas abordagens foram consideradas nesta pesquisa. Por um lado, aplicou-se uma abordagem bottow-up para revisar a literatura relevante relacionada a métricas de impacto para inovação social e boas práticas para avaliação de impacto de inovação social. Por outro, utilizou-se uma abordagem top-down, por meio da coleta e análise de projetos de pesquisa relacionados à identificação de métricas de impacto da inovação social, amplamente difundidos e bem consolidados na literatura atual. Resultados: Esta pesquisa oferece insights valiosos para pesquisadores acadêmicos, decisores de políticas e profissionais que trabalham no campo da inovação social, identificando e classificando as principais barreiras enfrentadas para medir o impacto da inovação social, ou seja, a falta de conscientização das partes interessadas no campo da inovação social, dificuldades para selecionar as métricas para avaliar a inovação social, dificuldades para selecionar critérios para identificar indicadores mais adequados à inovação social, falta de engajamento dos beneficiários, falta de apoio financeiro e público e falta de consenso na definição de inovação social.

ABSTRACT Purpose: This paper reviews extant research related to the impact assessment of social innovation and identifies several barriers to this assessment. Following this is a proposal of interventions to overcome these barriers. Originality/value: Social innovation has played an essential role in enhancing positive changes for society. Nonetheless, measuring its impact is a very significant challenge due to the many barriers faced in selecting metrics that fit its definition and goal. Recognizing these challenges, the main contribution of this paper was to identify the most common barriers and to suggest how these barriers can be overcome. Design/methodology/approach: Two approaches were considered in this research. On the one hand, a bottom-up approach was applied to review relevant literature related to impact metrics for social innovation and good practices toward social innovation impact assessment. On the other hand, we used a top-down approach through collecting and analyzing research projects related to identifying metrics of social innovation impact, broadly disseminated and well-consolidated in the current literature. Findings: This research offers valuable insights to academic researchers, policy decision-makers, and practitioners working in the field of social innovation by identifying and classifying the main barriers faced to measuring the impact of social innovation, namely lack of stakeholder awareness in the field of social innovation, difficulties in selecting the metrics to assess social innovation, problems in selecting criteria to identify best-fitted indicators to social innovation, lack of beneficiaries engagement, lack of financial and public support, and lack of consensus in the social innovation definition.

Abstract Paper aims This research has two main objectives, firstly to analyze the level of implementation of lean and green practices of a set of companies and secondly to analyze the relationship between lean and green initiatives in an industrial context. Originality The use of Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) allows a better analysis of the interlinkage of lean and green towards sustainable gains. The developed model offers conceptual contribution to the arena of the logistics, sustainability, lean and green. Research methods The methodology used in this study was carried out resorting an inquiry. Firstly, aiming to understand the level of these practices (lean and green) practices in the North of Portugal, a case study was considered. The sample taken is a convenient one, due to time and budget constraints. Secondly, in order to assess the possibility to combine lean ad and green initiatives, a statistical approach was used to develop a SEM for lean and green practices. Main findings The results demonstrated that the level of implementation of lean and green practices on Portuguese companies are not properly addressed and formalized. The statistical analysis also showed that lean environmental practices and green practices are positively associated. The research showed that lean and green has also a positive impact on the logistics processes of companies. Implications for theory and practice This research brings some contributions to both academy and companies. Firstly, a further discussion about the benefits of combining lean and green towards sustainability. Secondly, the development of a structural model for lean and green practices was presented, this model contributes to a better understanding of these practices, which can lead companies to develop strategic initiatives towards sustainability.

RESUMO: Neste artigo apresentamos de que forma as políticas nacionais de educação especial em sua perspectiva de educação inclusiva vem sendo significadas no município de Boa Vista, no período de 2006 a 2016, e práticas decorrentes dessas políticas. O estudo é desenvolvido por meio de análise documental a partir de normativos legais municipais, relatórios do órgão gestor da educação especial no município e relatos de experiência de professores que atuam nas salas de recursos multifuncionais. Identificamos que o foco da educação especial se centra nesses espaços.

ABSTRACT: In this article, we present how the national policies to Special Education, in the perspective of Inclusive Education, have been signified in the municipality of Boa Vista in the period from 2006 to 2016 as well as the practices resulting from these policies. The study is developed through documentary analysis, based on municipal legal norms, reports of the special education management body and reports of teachers who work in Multifunctional Resource Rooms. We have identified that the focus of special education concentrates on Multifunctional Resource Rooms.

RESUMO: Este estudo objetivou avaliar a prevalência, distribuição espacial e fatores de risco para a ocorrência de cisticercose bovina em animais abatidos oriundos do Estado de Rondônia, Brasil, entre os anos de 2012 a 2015. A prevalência observada foi de 0,014% (I.C. 95% 0,013-0,014), com maior detecção de cisticercos inviáveis (84,80%). Os municípios de Itapuã do Oeste, Candeias do Jamari, Nova Brasilândia D’Oeste, Pimenteiras do Oeste, Porto Velho, Nova Mamoré, Urupá e Guajará-Mirim apresentaram maior risco (OR>1; p<0.05) para a ocorrência da enfermidade quando comparadas ao município de Castanheiras (OR=1). As Regiões Administrativas de Porto Velho, Guajará-Mirim, Colorado D’Oeste, Cacoal, Ji-Paraná, respectivamente, apresentaram maior risco (OR>1; p<0.05) para a ocorrência de cisticercose nos bovinos abatidos comparadas à Região Administrativa de Ariquemes (OR=1). Algumas variáveis como a densidade populacional humana (OR=2,15; 2,15-2,16), percentual de domicílios urbanos com saneamento inadequado (OR=1,91, 1,91-1,92) e percentual de saneamento rural inadequado (OR=1,14, 1,14-1,14) apresentaram-se como fatores de risco significativos (p<0.05) para a ocorrência de cisticercose bovina. Conclui-se que a prevalência de cisticercose bovina no Estado de Rondônia foi 0,014% (I.C. 95% 0,013-0,014) e que áreas de maior ocorrência puderam ser identificadas, fornecendo informações a serem utilizadas pelo Serviço de Inspeção Federal para melhorar a detecção dos casos. Ainda, a densidade da população humana e a deficiência de sistemas de tratamento de esgotos urbanos e rurais estão intimamente relacionadas com a ocorrência da cisticercose bovina neste estado.

ABSTRACT: This study focused on assessing the prevalence, geospatial distribution and risk factors for bovine cysticercosis in cattle from the state of Rondônia, Brazil, through the years 2012 to 2015. The prevalence established was 0.014% (95% C.I. 0.013-0.014), with a higher detection of unviable cysticerci (84.80%). The municipalities of Itapuã do Oeste, Candeias do Jamari, Nova Brasilândia D’Oeste, Pimenteiras do Oeste, Porto Velho, Nova Mamoré, Urupá and Guajará-Mirim had higher risk (OR>1; p<0.05) for cysticercosis occurrence compared with the municipality of Castanheiras (OR=1). The Administrative Regions of Porto Velho, Guajará-Mirim, Colorado D’Oeste, Cacoal, Ji-Paraná had higher risk (OR>1; p<0.05) for cysticercosis occurrence in the slaughtered animals than those reared in Ariquemes Administrative Region (OR=1). Some variables such as human population density (OR=2.15; 2.15-2.16), percentage of urban houses with inappropriate sewage system (OR=1.91, 1.91-.1.92) and percentage of inappropriate rural sewage system (OR=1.14, 1.14-1.14) were significantly associated (p<0.05) with the occurrence of bovine cysticercosis. In conclusion, the prevalence of bovine cysticercosis in the state of Rondônia was 0.014% (95% C.I. 0.013-0.014) and higher-risk areas were identified, providing useful information to Official Sanitary Inspection System in order to improve cysticercosis detection. Also, human population density and the lack of appropriate sewage system in urban and rural areas are closely related to bovine cysticercosis occurrence in this state.

OBJETIVO: Investigar efeitos da L-alanil-glutamina nas concentrações musculares de lactato, e nas concentrações sanguíneas de LDH, em pacientes com isquemia crítica dos membros inferiores submetidos à revascularização distal. MÉTODOS: Dezesseis adultos (12-homens/4-mulheres) foram distribuídos em 2 grupos (1-controle/2-estudo). Três horas após injeção endovenosa de 250 ml de L-alanil-glutamina a 20% adicionados a 750 ml de soro fisiológico (Grupo 2), ou 1000 ml de solução salina (Grupo 1), iniciava-se a revascularização, sob raquianestesia. Amostras musculares e de sangue (arterial/venoso) foram coletadas no início do procedimento (TI), no final (TF), e 10 e 20 minutos após isquemia (T1/T2). RESULTADOS: Observou-se redução significante (p<0,05) da concentração de lactato no tecido muscular sadio dos pacientes tratados com L-alanil-glutamina, em comparação ao grupo controle, em todos os tempos estudados. Houve redução significante nas concentrações de LDH no sangue venoso dos pacientes tratados, em todos os tempos (TIV/TFV/T1V/T2V), e no sangue arterial durante a reperfusão (T1A/T2A). CONCLUSÕES: Queda na concentração de lactato no músculo, e redução nas concentrações arteriais e venosas de LDH, em pacientes recipientes de L-alanil-glutamina, sugere maior utilização de piruvato para produção de energia no ciclo de Krebs do que sua conversão para lactato, com prevalência da glicólise aeróbica.

PURPOSE: Investigate the repercussions of L-alanyl-glutamine in muscular tissue concentrations of lactate, and venous and arterial blood concentrations of LDH, in patients with critical ischemia of the lower limbs submitted to distal revascularization. METHODS: Sixteen adults (12 male/4 female) were distributed in 2 groups (1-Control/2-Experiment). Three hours after the intravenous injection of 250 ml of a 20% solution of L-alanyl-glutamine added to 750 ml of saline solution (Group 2); or 1000 ml of saline solution (Group 1), distal bypass was carried out under spinal anesthesia. Muscle and blood samples (arterial/venous) were collected at the beginning of the surgical procedure (TI), at the end (TF), and 10 and 20 minutes after re-establishment of blood flow. RESULTS: Significant reduction (p<0,05) of lactate concentration was observed in healthy muscle tissue in L-alanyl-glutamine treated patients in comparison to control group, at all times studied. There was a significant reduction (p <0,05) in venous concentrations of LDH in treated patients at all times studied (TI/TFV/T1V/T2V); and in arterial blood during reperfusion (T1A/T2A). CONCLUSIONS: 1. Decreased lactate concentrations in healthy skeletal muscle in patients treated with L-alanyl-glutamine suggests greater utilization of pyruvate for energy production than its conversion to lactate in Krebs cycle boosting aerobic glycolysis. 2. - Drop in venous blood concentrations of LDH in treated patients with L-alanyl-glutamine at all times during ischemia, and 10 and 20 minutes after reperfusion, also suggests augmented utilization of pyruvate for energy production via aerobic glycolysis.
